While it involves an absolutely ridiculous sounding name, I welcome the transformation of rapper Snoop Dogg into reggae musician Snoop Lion. Why is this even worthy to be blogged about? It’s not, not really. I do, however, appreciate when a entertainer takes a positive step in the right direction. Specially, Snoop (whoose music I was never a big fan of), says that he had a spiritual awakening when he met with ganja smoking Rastafarians in Jamaica. Okay so maybe it’s more of a wrong step in the right direction? Anyway the point is, the man no longer wants to rap about “guns and hoes” and instead wants to make music that his kids and grandparents can rock to. That is a change for the better. More importantly, he has grown closer to his wife.

How did Snoop come to drop the Dogg and add the Lion to his name? This is the most striking detail: “I went to the temple, where the high priest asked me what my name was, and I said, ‘Snoop Dogg.’ And he looked me in my eyes and said: ‘No more. You are the light. You are the lion.’ From that moment on, it’s like I had started to understand why I was there.” In other found his dignity as a child of God (Jah), no longer a dirty dog, Snoop embraced the glory of the Lion (of the Tribe of Judah, ultimately Jesus Christ). It can only be hoped that Snoop will eventually attain to the fulness of Light; in the meantime more power to him and may he never cease arising from darkness.
